The RTM Protocol™
A standardized, step-by-step method for trauma recovery built for real-world clinical use.
Clinical Overview
The RTM Protocol™ is a manualized, 89-step therapeutic intervention that works with the brain’s natural memory reconsolidation process to reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories.
Unlike exposure-based therapies, RTM does not require detailed retelling of the traumatic experience. This makes the process well-tolerated by clients and reduces vicarious trauma for providers.
The 89-Step Standardized Protocol
RTM’s strength is its structure. Every step is documented and teachable, ensuring consistent delivery across clinicians and settings.
- Fully manualized — every step documented and teachable
- High inter-rater reliability across clinicians
- Structured supervision and certification pathway
- Patent-pending methodology
How It Works: Memory Reconsolidation
When a traumatic memory is recalled, it enters a labile state where it can be modified before being re-stored. RTM uses this reconsolidation window to update the emotional response associated with the memory — without erasing the memory itself.
Through a structured visualization technique, the clinician guides the client to observe the memory from a dissociated perspective, reducing the autonomic arousal response.
For Organizations & Health Systems
RTM’s standardized protocol is designed for teams and organizations that need consistent, measurable outcomes across multiple providers and locations.
- Standardized training ensures consistent care delivery
- Measurable outcomes for reporting and accountability
- Reduced clinician burnout and turnover
- CE-approved by NBCC and ASWB
- Scalable deployment across sites and teams
